WTF! Why don't more beauty brands have a recycling program?

(there are 7 here actually)

Hey Girls,

I have been true to Bare Escentuals, but WTF Bare Escentuals can you give a girl an eco-friendly packaging approach, I'm waiting on you, can you help me out please? Actually, help me, help you! I want to help you out because I have seriously MANY of these empty plastic containers (that means I've spent already over $200 on your products but really I've spent much more I just threw those containers in the recycling bin at my place, anyway, I would like to drop these off at your store or a Sephora near me, and I don't need a discount or gift, sure of course I would take one, I mean even a dollar off would be cool or a free sample, but the point would be I'd feel better about your brand) and it's getting ridiculous. I am just waiting, hoping that one day you will have a recycling program. :(   Your whole packaging is plastic. Plastic you could be re-using. Or at least encourage your customers to recycle your products.  If there is a program for your company hiding in the dark somewhere, please let me know. When you consider starting one, I will promote it and be at the front of the campaign, ready! Also by the way, your recent packaging is a pain in the butt, getting the last bit of my product is what I do and your current packaging makes this tough. I squeeze the bottle for the last drop of my primer, shampoo bottle, I drink the backwash of my water bottle, I use it all! And it is very much a pain to bang, bang, bang the container to the point of anger just to get the full use of my purchase of your powder. I'd like to go back to the old packaging. The first packaging that was easy to open and swipe up the last bit with my brush. Please think about it, I still like you but I am getting real annoyed. Thanks.

(waiting on a recycling program)

However, M.A.C., LUSH, Origins, Kiehls and Aveda all offer recycling programs which is cool. Don't just throw your face wash bottle, cleanser, toner bottle in the trash bag. Recycle it!

M.A.C. gives you a free lipstick for returning six [6] M·A·C primary packaging containers to a M·A·C counter: http://www.maccosmetics.com/giving_back/btm_return_packaging.tmpl

Origins has a recycling program called Return to Origins, you may bring your empty Origins empty cosmetic tubes, bottles and jars to stores, here's more on the program, Reuse,Reduce, Recycle: http://www.origins.com/customer_service/aboutus.tmpl

LUSH, bring in five black pots and get a free mask mask! Tomorrow I am actually going to LUSH to return 5 pots!

Avenda takes back the caps from bottles of all types, read more on their program here: http://www.aveda.com/aboutaveda/caps.tmpl?ngextredir=1

Kiehl's has a recycle and be rewarded program, watch the video here on Facebook: Kiehl’s will offer customers a Limited Edition Eco-Tote designed by Pharrell Williams. Each tote is manufactured from Bionic® Yarn fabric, and includes 9 plastic bottles. The “Recycle and Be Rewarded” program takes place from 1 April 2011 to 31 March 2012. Get your new recycling cards from any Kiehl’s stores and start recycling!

This is all inspiring and awesome news, but what about drugstore brands? I wonder how hard would it be to send a recycling return box to drug stores?  Customers could drop off their plastics and makeup packaging material for each brand or the store itself or the brands could work something out with the suppliers and  manufacturers of their goods? I would actually do this if it was available. It kind of bothers me when I recycle a mascara tube or liptick tube even in my own recycling bin at home and I can't help but think, "Um, what's going to happen to that?"

Couldn't these brands could re-use their own packaging? Wouldn't this be smart? Cost-saving?  Maybe it costs more to wash and clean and re-use the material. I am not sure but I am searching for proof of why recycling their own packaging is not something it seems that most beauty brands do naturally.

Wouldn't the brands save money by re-using packaging? Why isn't this just common sense? Also so many times I walk in to a drug store SO many items are sitting there un-sold for months! Same items getting dusty and I wonder what will happen to this packaging? So their products this season may have not been as interesting to the consumer, but couldn't this plastic be re-used? Is this my nutty idea? Is it carelessness, or is this too much to ask?

I like a brand more when they do have a recycling program.

Plastics and products can be sold in these recycled packaging materials and plastics again and again, there is nothing wrong with the plastic, so why not?

Hopefully in the next years more beauty brands will decide to create their own recycling program. The cosmetic world needs to wake up when it comes to reducing waste! Even if I wasn't offered a free gift, I think it is a smart idea as a brand to have a recycling program. I don't need to be bribed to recycle. I already do it. Gift or no gift, I would be part of it.

Isobella Jade Quotes: Did you love yourself today?

When you wake up and when you go to bed each day confront yourself and accept yourself, give love and appreciation to yourself and be true to yourself, live up to your thoughts and your actions. There are many compassionless distractions out there which may engage us but which also have the potential to low our self-esteem and value of ourselves at the same time subconsciously, there are many visual distractions that we can judge and compare ourselves upon, there are many celebrations on the selfishness out there but not enough celebration on the generous and kind hearted—all, can make us forget about our inner-self. Be sure you to fill our heart, your mind and soul with a dose of self-love each day. ~Isobella Jade

Isobella Jade Quotes: Hanging in there can mean the difference

Hanging in there can mean the difference between getting what you want and not getting it. When you’re building a dream from scratch or investing the time in pursuing something you believe in, your patience will be tested, your heart will be tugged at, your energy will be pushed to the max, and it's because you pulled through, didn't give up when you could have, kept believing even through the doubt and carried on when the load was stressful, that you can now climb a step higher on the ladder that you are creating~Isobella Jade

Bradley Bayou shares The Science of Sexy for all sizes

Hey Girls,

I really love this article on Oprah.com on Bradley Bayou's, fashion designer and the author of The Science of Sexy also fashion guru for Oprah.com, insight on fashion for all sizes, check it out here:

http://www.oprah.com/style/Bradley-Bayous-Sexy-Science-Best-Fashion-for-All-Shapes-and-Sizes

The foundation of his "science of sexy" is based two things:
1. Dressing to balance your body.

2. Learning to conceal your flaws and reveal your assets.

...to create a figure that looks beautifully proportioned and that gets attention in all the right places.

In the article Bradley shares, "Let’s be real here for a second. The average fashion model is about 5'10", 115 pounds, and a size 4 at most. Now, consider this: The average American woman is 5'4", 164 pounds, and a size 14. In fact, half the women in this country wear a size 14 or above. Yet most of the clothes you find in stores are designed for tall, skinny fashion models. The problem is, the majority of women might not even look good wearing those clothes!

Today, most fashion books and magazine articles fail to distinguish the differences in body types when it comes to giving fashion advice. And they use vague lists of descriptors for how to look taller or thinner."

I agree!  I think you will really enjoy these features on Oprah.com on Bradley's science of sexy mindset and also his books. Here are some awesome tips for all sizes:

Download Bradley’s closet check list: http://www.oprah.com/style/Your-Dream-Closet-Checklist

Check out Badley’s Pant Guide for All Sizes: http://www.oprah.com/style/Bradley-Bayous-Pant-Guide

Bradley’s Dress Guide: http://www.oprah.com/style/Bradley-Bayous-Dress-Guide

Bradley Bayou's couture collection: http://www.bradleybayoucouture.com/

I encourage girls to give attention to their assets, to acknowledge what they do have and find the value in their size and shape, and not dwell on what they might not have been born with.

Learning to love and work with what you naturally have is something I believe in. NO one in perfect, we all have flaws and scars, and I think beauty is the glow on a woman's face, her inner love for herself. The word perfection hasn't been my goal, for what is perfection really? Perfect to who? Perfect to me? Perfect to someone else judging me? Screw that! I can be perfect for myself! I've learned to love my gap between my teeth, I put on that push-up bra if I want a more proportioned looking shape, and I try to understand my body (I have a booty, I have small hips, I have long legs for a short chick but I'm still short). It's good to know yourself, what you are working with! Also my own trial and error has proven I look best in certain skirts, certain styles of jeans, certain tops and jackets, to present myself in clothing that not only flatters my petite size, but also clothing that makes me feel confident and beautiful and brings out my true self.  Later I will share more on what styles as a petite I love and go-to.
I am sure that, especially my shorter readers, will enjoy Bradley Bayou's insight on styling for all sizes and shapes, and follow Bradley and his tips here on Facebook and Twitter: http://www.bradleybayou.com/

You are beautiful! Size is just a number!

Belmont Stakes pics: let's go Underdogs!

(Ruler on Ice, the winner of the 143rd Belmont Stakes)

Hey Girls, The underdog wins! My lucky number 3 horse 'Ruler On Ice' wins the 143rd running of the Belmont Stakes! You can watch the race here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hrMqjXdchY

It was a rainy, cold day and the track was sloppy and real muddy. I was freezing and shivering waiting for the races to go off today after we wiped our seats dry, and bet on races 7 through 10.

But the mud and slop didn't stop Ruler on Ice to get out there and work it, and plow through and win!

I always support the UNDERDOG! 'cause the Underdog can win!! Ruler on Ice was a 24-1 longshot, but his win proves to us all that the underdog can make it happen!

Read more about Ruler on Ice and the race here: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/12/sports/ruler-on-ice-a-long-shot-wins-at-muddy-belmont.html

I am happy that a horse with big odds plowed through. I read that the horse was good at long distances, and he sure was!

Hey Girls, get a personalized and signed copy of my books Short Stuff and Almost 5'4"

Hey Girls,

MY USA readers can get a personalized and signed copy of Short Stuff: on the job with an x-small model for $20

Also you can get Almost 5'4" for $20, here is the scoop:

http://www.isobelladreams.com/GetasignedcopyofIsobellasBooks.html

It took a few days for the airbrush paint to completely come off, and my whole body was tender for the next couple of days. The soreness was a reminder of the type of creative energy that gets put into many shoots, and the endurance required to be a professional model. ~excerpt from Short Stuff: on the job with an x-small model.

The five flights to my apartment weren’t as mountainous that night when I got back and my legs felt longer as I escalated, my body felt transformed, as if I grew a few inches taller. My muscles were tender and sore and I was hungry but what filled my stomach and eased my mind that night was the thought of how I had made it through the day and no one but me really knew the secret tolerance of it all.~ excerpt from Almost 5'4"

Come fly with me, helicopter ride this weekend rocked!

(my man took this from inside the helicopter)

Hey Girls,

While in the waiting room I thought: This place looks kind of ghetto.

But after we got in the helicopter it was AMAZING! 20 min ride of AWESOMENESS!

Because passengers sit by weight, as the smallest one I sat upfront with the pilot, it was fun watching him work the controls and Frank Sinatra played in the headsets. Even if NYC is your city, seeing it from the sky is so impressive. OMG moment: flying over the George Washington Bridge.

Simply apply yourself, it is the method to moving in the direction of where you want to go, it doesn't matter if you feel some doubt, that's normal of any hustler and dreamer, but give yourself a chance, a real chance, you might surprise yourself with the potential that's within you. ~Isobella Jade
